2011-05-05 Lycka! It is around +20°C in the tent when the sun is shining full on on it in the morning, -15°C outside. No wind and when we get out I find tracks from two snowmobiles that have passed not far from us during the night. When we get on those tracks skiing becomes much easier, the dogs knows where to go and no soft snow that we sink through.
After warming up with going uphill 45 minutes we get 10 km softly downhill along a glacier. It is so beautiful, not a cloud and not even a breeze. We have a great lunchstop in the amazing white world of mountains and glaciers, the best!
Another couple of hundred meters in height uphill then following another glacier down almost to sea level. The glacier ends with a big moraine with partly no snow on it. A bit higher, on the side of the mountain, i see tracks in the snow from what looks like snowshoes. Where it goes a bit steeper down the person has sat down and slided. We cross those tracks a little later in the moraine, they are not from snowshoes, it is a polarbear on its way up the glacier, sliding down the slopes.
Here almost at sea level the amount of snow is much, much less than higher up. We stop for the night, Bris changes job from pulling pulka to guarding for polarbears.
