2011-04-24 Is- och snöbrist
The storm took the ice!
Around lunch time the weather started to improve after a very stormy and rainy night. When I looked out I saw that the bay we crossed yesterday now was covered in water. And the ice in the fjord was now all scattered and drifting around. My plan was to ski on the fjordice south through Wijdefjorden, but obviously that wasn't possible. Instead we started to work our way up to get on the huge glacier Åsgårfonna. Soon I found out that last night stormy and mild weather also had been very hard on the snow. Big areas were now only black stone fields, hard to pass with heavy pulkas. We tried to cross a little lake but went through 2-3 dm watermixed snow, what looked like ice was obviously not just ice...
We worked hard, but didn't get very far and in the evening it started to rain again and from the fjord a thick fog started to rise. Everything around us disappeared in the white, no visibility and no idea to continue.
